ASHLEY ESSELINK ’15
Graphic Design | Photography | Video
I like to explore. I like to discover. I like to ask questions and research or work until I find a solution. I am imaginative, a problem solver, resourceful, and persistent.
I grew up in a small community that provided me with many opportunities to become involved. I like to be able to change things and make things happen. I participated in many sports teams, clubs, groups, and committees, and was very fortunate to be able to have an opinion, know that it mattered, and be able to act on it to change the community for the better. For me, it is important to be involved because it is my way of showing that I care and knowing that I am doing my part.
I like to spend my free time outside riding my bike, playing Frisbee, running, or spending time with my animals or friends. My main passion in life is photography. I love shooting still life subjects, animals, and experimenting with long-exposure pictures. Recently, I have taken an interest in people as subjects. I also enjoy knitting, graphic design, and music very much. I am very ‘artsy,’ outgoing, energetic, fun, reliable, passionate, and independent. I love to have fun and to laugh.
I chose New Media studies because it is SO prevalent in our lives. If affects everything we do, view, and see. EVERY company has some sort of PR / marketing / advertising and with a NMS degree you can do any and all of it from whichever angle you want–video, photography, design, and more. The other thing that’s nice is that if you’re torn between being an NMS student or a nurse, you can do publicity or design for a hospital…or at a dentist office…say you wanted to be a teacher or work with kids…do the PR for a college or school system…say you wanted to work outdoors…do the PR for a Nature Center or Wild Life Preserve…or a campground. I love NMS because I have the flexibility to combine my love of technology and media with any other area that I’m interested in.
